The Nursery Rooms
Elephants
In our baby unit we have a 3:1 staff ration to give the baby warmth, love and care, in a comfortable and safe surrounding. We have a senior Nursery Officer who is responsible for the organization of the baby room staff and twelve babies aged from 3 months to 2 years of age. They stimulate the babies by singing, playing with an assortment of games and toys with them and by entertaining them with music, arts, crafts and by giving them all the care they can. As the babies progress in acquiring skills they are slowly brought into the Tiger Cubs rooms at the age of two years or just before, depending on the child's needs and ability.

Giraffes

The cubs room is designed for a maximum of 16 children aged 2 to 3 years with 4 members of staff. This enables the children to derive the maximum amount of benefit in developing all their skills. They have access to a wide range of activities and play opportunities. The emphasis in this room is to explore and experiment while you learn! The children will be offered lots of creative and messy activities with use of an extensive range of resources.

The room is divided into two parts - one being a comfy, relaxing and quieter area for imaginative play, construction, mathematical activities and a book/reading area. The other part is for all the messy and creative activities, sand and water play.

Tigers

This is the first of the pre-school rooms and has a maximum of ten 3 to 4 year olds. Our Deputy Manager is responsible for the Foundation Stage and the Early Years Curriculum for this age group. There is a structured routine which includes many activities such as, music and movement, cooking, science experiments, topic discussions and outdoor play in addition to activities covering all areas of learning.

Bears

This is the second pre-school room for the oldest children in the Nursery and is situated in our newly purpose-built classroom. The older children also have an opportunity to share our reading scheme covering the initial stages of the Early Years Curriculum. They do lots of activities connected to a current theme. There are always planned activities on offer as well as free choice activities.

The children are helped to improve their pencil control, learn how to write their names and learn simple mathematical concepts. The children are encouraged to start learning how to use a computer. Visits are also made to places of interest and as part of their topic work.
